Emergency load and generation sets are on standby for PLDT and Smart’s Libreng Tawag (free calls) and Libreng Charging (free charging) stations, which will commence operations as soon as possible to serve the communication needs of impacted communities.
The Group is also coordinating with local government authorities of BARMM to help accelerate relief assistance to be extended to the flooded communities impacted by ‘Paeng’ rainbands.
PLDT and Smart’s sales teams are currently assessing the situation in Panay Islands and are working on setting up Libreng Tawag (free calls) and Libreng Charging (free charging) stations as soon as it is safe to do so. Relief aid will be extended to some parts of Western Visayas, which remain flooded due to ‘Paeng’. PLDT and Smart also opened their Daet Cable Landing Station to provide shelter to evacuees.
As it continues to move west northwestward, STS ‘Paeng’ made its landfall in Virac, Catanduanes, and Caramoan, Camarines, Sur earlier this morning. Weather bureau PAGASA also reported ‘Paeng’ to affect Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao with heavy rainfall and winds in the next 24 hours.
No damage to network sites was reported by PLDT and Smart’s operations team amid STS ‘Paeng’. PLDT and Smart continue to be on full alert as STS ‘Paeng’ traverse the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
We urge everyone to take necessary precautions and heed the alerts and warnings of local governments and disaster response authorities.
