PLDT, Inc. and Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) were recognized anew at the 2022 Asia Communication Awards (ACA)–the annual recognition program for outstanding telco players organized by London-based industry publication Total Telecom.
The group hauled four major citations, including prestigious nominations for Operator of the Year and CEO of the Year. The group was also shortlisted under the Crisis Response and Social Contribution categories.
PLDT and Smart’s Operator of the Year bid highlights the group’s stellar performance in 2021, anchored on customer-centricity, operational excellence, consistent productivity and profitability, positive and sustainable growth for communities, and commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance pillars in all facets of the Group’s operations.
“Rising from Rai”–the group’s comprehensive disaster response, relief, and recovery program in the aftermath of Typhoon Odette was nominated under ACA’s Best Crisis Response category. PLDT and Smart demonstrated crisis leadership by ensuring network resiliency and access to life-saving information, communication services, and relief packages to affected communities.
Meanwhile, “Better Today”–PLDT and Smart’s stakeholder management program geared towards promoting safety and wellness within communities, was nominated for the Social Contribution Award. The program is designed to cater to PLDT and Smart’s customer communities nationwide. In view of the youth’s vulnerability to online threats, “Better Today” champions the adoption of better and more responsible digital habits.
All these milestones were accomplished under the leadership of PLDT and Smart President and CEO Alfredo S. Panlilio, who is shortlisted for ACA’s CEO of the Year following a call for nominations from industry members. Panlilio, was shortlisted along with two other Asian CEOs.
With Panlilio at the helm, PLDT and Smart embarked on a transformation journey in response to the rapidly shifting market conditions in the Philippines. The integrated telco has determined its aspirational PLDT 2025 vision and strategy, with improved quality of customer experience as one of the Group’s key transformational goals.
Winners of the 2022 Asia Communication Awards will be announced on December 14 via a virtual ceremony to be hosted by Total Telecom.
