We’ve seen triple rear camera phones with telephoto + hybrid zoom, and we’ve seen boxy motorized pop-up selfie cameras on near full-screen devices. What we’ve not seen is a triangle-shaped pop-up camera. Until now. Meet the OPPO Reno series, comprised of the dual rear camera Reno (48MP + 5MP) and the flagship-spec’d triple rear camera Reno 10x Zoom (48MP Main + 8MP Wide + 16MP telephoto). Both have a shark’s fin pop-up selfie camera extension that also houses the rear camera flash. They look the same, except that the Reno is slightly smaller, has one less rear camera, is spec’d down versus its flagship level sibling, and has an audio jack (the 10x Zoom does not).

The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom is, right now, the only commercially available smartphone with a triple camera set up (main, wide, telephoto) that may be able to rival that of the Huawei P30 Pro (whose future Android firmware updates and security patches are uncertain given the US blacklist threat).

How sturdy is the Reno series’ shark’s fin pop-up mechanism? According to OPPO Philippines, it can last for more than 5 years, will withstand opening and closing 100 times per day, and has some level of water resistance despite having no IP rating.
