Educational institutions are leveraging the power of technology to make quality hybrid learning possible as the educational landscape continues to shift.

To make sure that the school stays ahead of the curve and stays true to its promise of excellence in maritime education and training in the Asia-Pacific region, the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) tapped Globe Business to upgrade its learning system with a technology infrastructure that will deliver a richer learning experience for its students and educators.

“It is our mission to ensure that our Filipino seafarers have the competitive edge in the global maritime sector.  Our partnership with Globe Business is a significant milestone  that is helping us sustain the quality maritime education and training that our institution has been known for,” said Gerardo Galang, MAAP’s Management Information and Instructional Technology Department Head.

The Bataan-based institution was founded in 1998 by the late Capt. Gregorio Oca, a visionary who championed the rights of Filipino seafarers and founded the Association Maritime Officer’s and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines.

MAAP today boasts of state-of-the art facilities that are compliant with not just the requirements of the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers but also OPITO standards–the global industry standard in oil and gas safety, skills and competence.

The school tapped Globe Business to upgrade its digital ecosystem of education and connectivity solutions which it first introduced in 2017. It has its own dedicated internet connection powered by Globe Business Direct Internet which allows its faculty and personnel to fully access its subscribed bandwidth. Through this robust network solution, student learning and school operations have become seamless.

The school saw the need to use Managed WiFi in its library, student dormitory, and social halls to give its students better access to learning materials even outside the classroom. This solution also allowed them to better manage its network, particularly the access of students to the school’s website and to social media platforms, allowing them to ensure their students use their laptops and devices for lessons or other school requirements.

Through its partnership with Globe Business, MAAP now has 200 units of mobile WiFi with 25GB data  to equip students and teachers  with fast and worry-free internet connection. It also recently expanded  its Google Workspace for Education subscription to enrich the teaching experience of its educators and allow them to  collaborate and communicate with their students  utilizing easy-to-use learning tools on a secured platform.

With the capabilities of Google Workspace for Education, MAAP now enjoys the convenience of streamlined document approvals, data loss prevention, powerful search and management tools that enable teachers to organize, access and track classroom learning, among others.

“As part of our commitment to promote access to quality education, we forge partnerships with schools like MAAP, which sought to leverage technology to offer quality education and training to its maritime students at a particularly challenging time. We bring them affordable connectivity, accessible digital solutions and safer learning space that will help them adapt to innovations and ensure continuity of education amid the changing landscape of 21st century learning,” said Globe Business MSME Group Head KD Dizon.
