Celebrating 50 golden years of providing world-class healthcare, Makati Medical Center continues its legacy through transformative healthcare throughout the years. A top hospital in the Philippines, MakatiMed started from a dream of a small group of doctors to cater to the health needs of patients and opened its doors on May 31, 1969. It has since expanded to be a 600-bed capacity hospital that provides personalized and premium healthcare services.
In the past year alone, MakatiMed served more than 650,000 patients of varying healthcare needs and performed nearly 150 million procedures which showed a 10% increase compared to 2017.
The following are select outstanding milestones from the past year.
Acquisition of most advanced Molecular Imaging PET-CT System. MakatiMed signed a partnership with General Electric (GE) Philippines, a digital industrial company. The hospital acquired a unit of the latest Discovery Molecular Imaging Digital Ready (Discovery MI DR) 128 Slice, making MakatiMed the very first hospital in the Philippines and the second in Asia to install this most advanced technology. Featuring a modern Revolution EVO CT, Discovery MI DR helps in the early diagnosis and staging of diseases for better management and treatment strategies.
3-year Radioactive Material License. The Department of Nuclear Medicine and the Section of Radiation Oncology (Department of Radiology) each received a Radioactive Material License from the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI). The licenses are valid for three years.
Central Registration Project. In a bid to provide easier access to world-class healthcare services, MakatiMed launched the Central Registration Facility at the MMC HealthHub. The Central Registration Facility aims to streamline the process when availing multiple medical services in MakatiMed and enhance the overall experience of patients. The new system works by letting the patients undergo a single registration process, scheduling and payment before undergoing various treatments and procedures from different centers. Central Registration effectively reduces the time it takes for a patient to register and settle all required procedures, thus saving patient wait time and lessen paper documentation.
Patient ID System. The MakatiMed Patient ID Card was launched to strengthen engagement and facilitate seamless registration and transactions with new and existing patients. Each MakatiMed patient is provided an ID card containing their name, date of birth, and unique patient number. The Patient ID card is used at every transaction, giving MakatiMed’s healthcare providers easier access to accurate patient data, reducing errors and time spent on repetitive form completion.
Awards and Recognitions. The International Hospital Federation (IHF), composed of hospitals and healthcare organizations from around the globe, selected MakatiMed’s Infection Prevention and Control Program as the Merit Awardee for the IHF/Austco Excellence Award for Quality & Safety and Patient-Centered Care. MakatiMed was the only healthcare institution from the Philippines that made the cut in its category after an extensive review. The Infection Prevention and Control Program also earned recognition from the Philippine Hospital Association (PHA) as it received the Overall Best Level 3 Healthcare Facility award and Best in Environmental Cleaning and Decontamination award at the 69th Annual national Convention.
MakatiMed’s entry “T.I.M.E. Pressure Injury Clinical Care Bundles: Turning, Inspection of Skin, Modern Dressing and Effective Patient and Family Education” was named Patient Safety Initiative of the Year – Philippines, while “ACTS (Automated Complaints Tracking System)” was awarded Customer Service Initiative of the Year – Philippines. The 2016 Culture of Care Annual Report, which features MakatiMed’s commitment to compassionate patient care, won the Silver Anvil Award under the Publications category during the 53rd Anvil Awards and the Award of Merit at the 16th Philippine Quill Awards.
New centers. Makati Medical Center’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation officially launched the Center for Pediatric Development and Rehabilitation (CPDR). The move comes as the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation seeks to further extend its commitment to patient care and maintain its reputation as the “Malasakit” Rehabilitation Team provider of MakatiMed and now it is ready to serve the pediatric community. The Anesthesiology Department also opened the Clinic for Anesthesia Preoperative Evaluation (CAPE) to provide pre-anesthesia evaluation for patients that will undergo procedure and surgery requiring anesthesia.
