Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading super app, is celebrating its seven-year milestone through its continued thrust to nourish local talent and small companies to further make an impact in the lives of more people.
After years of being in the digital landscape, Grab has learned that invaluable support, expertise, and guidance of experienced players is necessary for a start-up to grow. Because of this, Grab gives back and shares what it gained along its journey.
“Grab started out as a small company that merely wanted to address the transport pain point in Southeast Asia. Today, we have grown to be the leading super app in the region thanks to the support given to us by our mentors, financial backers, partners, and customers. Because of this, we have adopted a practice of helping others grow, as Grab continues to expand both in scale and in volume,” Grab Philippines President Brian Cu said.
Nourishing small players
Through Grab Ventures Velocity, Grab’s accelerator program focused on growth-stage startups, Grab is helping nourish businesses in various sizes by giving them access to Grab’s resources, capabilities and networks, and its program partners.
This year, Grab Ventures Velocity is looking for companies that it could help in two tracks: digital agriculture and digital efficiency solutions. The program runs from June to August with the theme Empowering Micro-entrepreneurs in Southeast Asia.
Grab Ventures Velocity goes hand in hand with Grab’s partnership with GoNegosyo through the latter’s MentorMe Initiative, a weekly coaching and mentoring program that aims to empower micro-entrepreneurs across the country.
Engaging local talent
Grab likewise values local talents and believes in the power of the Asean mind. Through the Grab AI Roadshow, Grab is searching for experts from the provinces to join its growing AI and data teams.
In the Philippines, it will hold a roadshow in Manila on June 3 to engage potential participants in a series of rigorous technical challenges. Besides technical prowess, the challenge will also test the participants’ creativity and ability to understand and solve complex problems.
The winner will have the opportunity of working full-time for Grab.
Growth opportunities for partners
Grab also puts a premium on the development of the financial capacity and management of its drivers, which are considered as micro-entrepreneurs, through financial literacy programs.
Through its yearly Misiskolar Program, Grab is empowering the wives of its drivers with financial literacy education to better manage their finances. Grab vows to strengthen this program this year, as it also drives more initiatives to encourage and incentivize Grab driver-partners through its Ka-Grab Rewards Incentive Scheme and the Grab Academy.
These driver partners, along with rider-partners for GrabFood and GrabExpress, are now afforded with better means of earning money for their families. Grab’s partner merchants have also benefited immensely from the ubiquity of Grab in the Philippines, as well as their new digital storefronts in the Grab app.
“Our vision is to help more microentrepreneurs realize their potentials. At Grab, we believe that growing together with our partners is key to sustaining our momentum, and fully realize our vision as the one-true super app in Southeast Asia,” Cu said.
Biggest celebration
Aside from intensifying its efforts to help its partners grow, Grab is celebrating its seventh year by providing consumers with delightful treats from its merchant partners such as 7-11, Jollibee, the SM Group, Lazada, and Max’s among others.
Grab has prepared a two-week long celebration for its seventh birthday with promos ranging from P77 discounts for GrabCar, P777 cashback for GrabPay, P7 Grab bundles, and more!
It will also hold a raffle for its 7 Grab Anniversary Gifts, wherein seven lucky winners per day for seven days will receive gift certificates worth up to P10,000 from Grab’s partners.
But the biggest among its many promotions for its seventh birthday is the awarding of seven raffle winners with 1 million GrabRewards Points each. Grab is also giving away 50,000 GrabRewards Points as consolation prizes to seven Grab users.
“Sharing the love has always been at the core of Grab, and as we celebrate our seventh year in business, we want to give back to Filipino consumers who helped us reach where we are right now — the leading everyday super app in the Philippines and the greater Southeast Asia,” Cu said.
