From K-pop and K-drama to K-fashion, the Korean wave has swept Filipinos off their feet and has inspired the young and the vibrant to discover more about themselves, unleash their talents and express fresh and bold ideas.

As a true enabler of the Filipino Gen Z’s passion and interests, Globe Prepaid has opened Virtual Hangouts GoKOREAN K-Fashion Institute, where K-fashion stans learned for free how to turn their love for Korea’s dynamic street style into a promising career.

Its first run culminated in a hybrid event at the BGC Globe Iconic Amphitheater with a splashy and one-of-a-kind showcase of creations by 10 scholars who successfully finished the masterclasses on Korean fashion and design. The event in partnership with ZALORA, was simultaneously streamed via Globe’s Facebook page and Globe Prepaid’s Virtual Hangouts GoKOREAN Passion Portal.

“We are happy to have launched this initiative for Gen Zs who are passionate about fashion design and styling and give them the foundation—the basic know-how and experience to jumpstart what could be a promising career for them in the future,” said Givielle Florida, Globe Prepaid Head.

The finalists who took the fashion and design curriculum spread across seven sessions were Anjanette Khong Hun, Zofia Louise Nichole Lanza, Chin Bernabe, Kimi Reyes, Hannah Therese Avila, JJ Esleyer Jr., Princess Sahara Rodolfo, Siegfred Daryl Ramirez, Jean Laurio and Jeshoshieba Santiago.

In the masterclasses, the scholars learned the impact of Korean fashion on Philippine fashion, were shown the ropes to illustrate Korean fashion designs in 2D and 3D, and taught how to start their own K-Fashion brand. They also learned about styling and photography the K-fashion way for social media, Korean textile surface design and marketing in the digital space.

The sessions were specially designed for GoKOREAN K-Fashion Institute in collaboration with De La Salle University-College of St. Benilde Fashion Design Department, and Korean fashion stylists and insiders Mark Ranque, Lyn Alumno, Joshua Dacena and Danyl Geneciran, who took the role of class mentors and facilitators.

At the closing ceremony, the audience was treated to exciting Pinoy pop performances of 1st One and BINI, who wore outfits from ZALORA and styled by the 10 scholars as part of their final challenge.

For her originality, creativity and fashion vision, Jean Laurio won the hearts of the judges and was picked as the grand winner of the GoKOREAN K-Fashion Institute The Finale. She also took home Php50,000 in cash as her reward. The event concluded with a heartwarming performance by singer-songwriter Unique Salonga.
