Leading digital solutions platform Globe welcomes the Philippines’ climb in a global digital competitiveness index as it vowed to introduce more innovations in support of more inclusive digital transformation.
The Philippines improved two notches in the 2022 World Digital Competitiveness Ranking of the IMD business school, which rates the digital transformation of companies and the level of people’s adoption of digital practices in a particular country.
It, however, notably ranked 56th out of 63 countries rated, and trailed Southeast Asian neighbors, placing 13th out of 14 nations, showing the need to further boost its digital competitiveness.
“The country’s digital competitiveness ranking this year shows digital adoption has improved in the Philippines, but we still have a long way to go. As the Philippines’ leading digital solutions group, we are ready to support greater digital transformation through landmark innovations, as we have done in recent years,” said Globe Group President and CEO Ernest Cu.
“Globe has been at the forefront of the digital shift in the areas of fintech, health tech, edutech, among others. We have introduced many groundbreaking apps that individuals, businesses and organizations now use daily to address their various pain points, becoming indispensable to customers. We will continue to innovate to help drive inclusivity and equitable digital growth across the country,” he added.
Globe believes the administration’s digitalization agenda provides an environment conducive to expanding digital adoption in the country, well-aligned with Globe’s initiatives to advance the country’s digital transformation and its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Having the Philippines’ most reliable network, Globe also reiterates its support for the administration’s goal to digitalize government processes, ready to provide the necessary ICT infrastructure to see this through.
The company continues to expand its network footprint, building 572 new cell towers and upgrading ~6,800 mobile sites to 4G LTE in the first half of the year to address growing connectivity needs of Filipinos amid greater digitalization. Globe targets building 1,700 new cell sites by year end, higher than the 2021 total of 1,407.
Globe has also been scaling up deployment of 5G wireless technology nationwide, with 933 sites built from January to June this year. It now has outdoor 5G coverage of nearly 97% in Metro Manila and 86% in key cities in Visayas and Mindanao, allowing more Filipinos to enjoy higher speeds, lower latency, and more reliable data services.
More people are using 5G with the expanding coverage, with Globe logging an estimated 2.7 million devices in its 5G network as of the end of June.
