COVID-19 has magnified the existing gap of Filipino’s nutritional needs. According to the latest Fill the Nutrient Gap – Philippine Summary Report of the World Food Program, one-third of Philippine households couldn’t afford a diet that meets their nutritional needs.
Capital One believes in empowering its associates, and creating long-lasting, positive impact in its partner communities to ensure that we are able to thrive as a community and as a nation. Capital One remains steadfast in investing for good to help alleviate the country’s pressing issues. That is why the company expanded its existing initiatives that aim to address the malnutrition gap with the following:
• Health Awareness Intervention for Nutrition (HAIN) Feeding Program and Healthy Eating Habits, Capital One’s annual feeding program initiative in partnership with its nearby communities. Nearly 200 Capital One volunteers were able to feed over a thousand school children at Alabang Elementary last January and February.
• Rise Against Hunger, an international hunger relief non-profit organization that coordinates the packaging and distribution of food and other life-changing aid to people in developing nations. Capital One actively liaises with this organization to help address the nutritional needs of the communities Capital One cares for. By the end of August, Capital One has been able to deliver over 600,000 meals through Rise Against Hunger. This is in line with the company’s goal of donating over a million meals this 2020.
In addition to these nutrition initiatives, Capital One is partnering with local organizations to alleviate poverty and address education and local community issues.
• SOS Children’s Villages, a private, non-political, non-denominational organization that provides family-like care to children in need. As of today, the Capital One house has a total of 17 beneficiaries.
• Tuloy Foundation, a non-government organization that provides care and training for poor, abandoned and homeless children. Together, they established an initiative called the Contact Center Readiness Program (CCRP). This provides students the opportunity to undergo a nine-month contact center training that equips them with the knowledge and skills needed for them to be eligible for employment and eventually provide for their families and achieve their dreams.
Despite social distancing protocols and the inability to physically congregate together, Capital One has been actively liaising with Tuloy Foundation and SOS Children’s Villages to ensure that all programs continue.
