Canon’s Full-frame DSLR EOS-1D X Mark III Delivers Uncompromised Photo and Video at Impressive Speed
Distinguished as the epitome of full-frame DSLR cameras for professionals, the EOS-1D X Mark III offers superior image quality and breathtaking 4K video recording perfect for power users
The Canon’s brand-new flagship full-frame DSLR, the EOS-1D X Mark III, is arriving in the Philippines. The class-leading DSLR camera offers a powerful 20.1 megapixel, 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor, a newly developed DIGIC X image processor that captures top-notch image quality in a wide range of shooting situations. Capturing images at 20 frames per second (fps) and up-to-4K 60P using Canon’s proprietary Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus (AF) technology, the EOS-1D X Mark III offers a powerhouse gear to deliver shots of professional quality.
“The EOS-1D X Mark III is a testament to Canon’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovative imaging products. Everyone, from a seasoned professional or an advanced enthusiast can enjoy the unparalleled technology it offers that is uniquely Canon as it suits a wide photography and videography needs,” said Benny Yu, Canon Marketing (Philippines), Inc. Head of Consumer Imaging and Information division.
Among the powerful features of EOS-1D X Mark III are:
• The newly developed 20.1 megapixel, 35mm full frame CMOS sensor
• Continuous shooting speeds of up to 16 fps (viewfinder shooting) and up to 20 fps (Live View) with AF/AE tracking
• The new DIGIC X image processor with CFexpress media (dual slots), which allows a burst rate of approximately 1000 shots (RAW + JPEG)
• 4K UHD and 4K DCI movie recording at 60p/50p, and supports Canon Log 4:2:2 10-bit in-camera recording
• In-camera recording of 5.5K RAW movies with simultaneous MP4 files
• Built-in Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi with FTP, supports 5Ghz wireless LAN, and compatible with 2×2 MIMO when used with WFT-E9
The Ultimate EOS Camera: Fast, Precise, and Powerful
The new EOS-1D X Mark III uses the latest Canon AF sensor, offering increased pixel density for both vertical and horizontal directions by 28 times. This results in a significant increase of AF points from 61 points (used by EOS-1D X Mark II) to 191 points (suited for optical viewfinder shooting). Compared to the EOS-1D X Mark II, this latest camera’s sensor offers speed that is 40x faster. All 191 AF points support exposure of up to f/8 over the entire AF area, with 65 cross-type AF points at f/8, making it great for use with extenders, especially for wildlife or sports photography shots.
Photography enthusiasts will enjoy improved resolution, color reproduction, and noise reduction from EOS-1D X Mark III from the new DIGIC X imaging processor that powers the camera. Its increased ISO speed of up to 102,400 retains the quality of the images even in low-light situations. A dedicated DIGIC 8 processor supports the camera’s AF management and control of the 400,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor. Its newly developed 16-point low pass filter, which incorporates the Gaussian filter, helps reduce moiré, color distortion, and still better suit high-resolution lenses.
The EOS-1D X Mark III offers detail in every shot, as among the first cameras to offer the HDR PQ HEIF, a 10-bit recording standard (for stills) that uses high-resolution and low-noise approaches versus conventional high-definition standards. HEIF files can be easily converted to JPEG (HDR PQ-quality) format and have a similar “feel” to those shot with HDR PQ. This feature eliminates the need for RAW development retouching and gamma adjustment process, particularly for photos with strong contrast or lighter tones in neutral-colored areas.
The latest from the EOS series reinvents burst shooting by increasing speeds to 16 fps and up to 20 fps for Live View shooting for both RAW and RAW + JPEG recording to help users capture decisive moments. EOS-1D X Mark III uses a new mirror system with a high-speed mechanism to retract and reset the mirror, combined with an optical system that displays images in real time to improve the camera’s ability to track moving subjects through the viewfinder, avoiding “blackouts” commonly experienced during high burst shooting.
The accuracy and stability of human detection functions have been greatly improved in this camera and, coupled with the miniaturized AF area division (up to 525 segments), it delivers excellent tracking performance and focusing accuracy, even for fast moving subjects and during burst shooting at a speed of up to 20 fps. Photographers can fine tune image focus by manually select from the 3,869 AF positions available with this camera.
New Dual CFexpress Media Format and 4K Video Recording Without Cropping
Supporting its high-speed shooting features, the EOS-1D X Mark III stores images in the new dual CFexpress card slots—the leading format today in high-speed data transfer. This, alongside the camera’s extended buffer memory, delivers 1,000 shots (RAW), 5x more compared to the EOS-1DX Mark II.
The EOS-1D X Mark III is also the first Canon full-frame camera to feature 4K UHD (3840 x 2160, 16:9) video recording without cropping. It additionally supports the 4K DCI (4096 x 2160, 17:9) standard established by the Digital Cinema Initiative. Equipped with CINEMA EOS SYSTEM-approved Canon Log, the camera supports H.265 HEVC encoding ensuring wide gradation, vivid color range and small file size.
Using the HDMI 4K 60p output/Canon Log 10-bit output, the camera can transmit 4K movie data to another device for display or external recording. Besides this, EOS-1D X Mark III supports Canon Log YCbCr 4:2:2 10-bit video output and ITU-R BT.2020 color gamut output, making it possible to capture movie images with excellent dynamic range. In-camera 5.5K 60p RAW movie is also available on the EOS-1D X Mark III allowing users to shoot HDR clips, high-contrast scenes, and scenes that require advanced editing. High-speed movie shooting is likewise possible at 120p/100p for FHD with the EOS-1D X Mark III.
Enhanced Network Functions and Transfer Speeds
True to its promise of speed, OS-1D X Mark III uses built-in GPS receiver which supports SuperSpeed Plus USB (USB 3.1 Gen 2) transfer speed. This rate exceeds the transfer speed of its predecessor EOS-1D X Mark II which uses SuperSpeed USB, USB 3.0. In addition to this, the camera now comes with built-in Wi-Fi with FTP functions, including the new WFT-E9 that comes with dual antennas compatible with Dual Band (2.4GHz/5GHz).
The latest mirrorless camera, EOS-1D X Mark III, is designed to ensure mechanical strength for high speed continuous shooting and smooth operations. It’s outfitted with a shutter mechanism durability of approximately 500,000 cycles. With a sturdy magnesium alloy body complete with dust-and-moisture resistance features, EOS-1D X Mark III’s camera system is ready to tough it out to capture that singular, elusive shot.
