Here’s a phone that wants to be “picture-perfect” and budget-friendly. It’s just-right-sized (5-inches), spot-on priced (P6,190 on Lazada on Sept. 30), and has a selfie camera with a good LED flash (we tested it and we love it) that doesn’t make you look like a corpse. (Low light selfies here we go!) On paper (specs and price) and upon initial testing (we got some hands on time), we’re impressed with the Alcatel Flash 2.
Alcatel Flash has a name for what most of us do with our camera phones – mobigraphy, or mobile photography. “[With the Alcatel Flash 2] we continue to provide accessibility and convenience to the users to shoot their best moments,” said Albert Wong, Alcatel Flash General Manager. The focus on lifestyle usage, mobile photography, convenience, and accessibility are all reflected in what the Alcatel Flash 2 offers. Here are my first thoughts:
Feels good in your hand. The curved sides, grip-friendly texture on the sides and back, and just right 5-inch size (not phablet obscene) combine for comfort. Your thumb can conveniently reach most parts of the display, and one hand usage is possible. Because most of us text while doing something else.
gSight (rear camera) and Profile Cam (selfie) are spec’d to take good pictures. Until recently, buying budget priced phones (P4k-P6k) assured you of having bad-to-mediocre cameras. The Alcatel Flash 2 aims to be one of the exceptions. The gSight camera (13MP, F2.0) can take nice pictures, with flash, of people in medium to low light scenes, and their skin tones look good. Ready for Facebook upload. The Profile Cam, meanwhile, has properly functioning LED flash – that’s a lifesaver for those of us who love evening and low light selfies.
The Alcatel Flash 2 goes on sale exclusively on Lazada on Sept 30.
Price tag without the pains. While we’re often told to separate the “daily driver” phones (affordable, not too fast, don’t expect much from their cameras) from the “good camera phones” (looks great, feels good in your hand, takes good pics), the Alcatel Flash 2 aims to blur the lines. Daily driver phones, they say, you won’t cry over should you lose them. But since the Flash 2 takes great pics, at a daily driver price, some tears are not unreasonable.
More than acceptable performance for the price. The multitasking experience – just enough to support our endless obsession with social media and taking and uploading pictures – is supported by a 64-bit Octa-Core processor with 2GB RAM. The 3,000 mAh battery, we suspect, will be more than enough to get you through the day. Read our quick review of the Flash 2 here.
